「動物のお医者さん」

授乳中によくマンガを読むんですが、今日「動物のお医者さん」を読み返すのが終わりました。

「動物のお医者さん」は、獣医を目指す学生・主人公ハムテルと、
彼を取り巻くいろんな動物たちとに日々を書いたコメディマンガです。
空前のシベリアン・ハスキーブームを巻き起こしたことで有名だと思います。
リアルで、きれいで、魅力的な表情をする、動物たちの絵も高い評価を得ています。

でも、このマンガのすばらしいところは、なんといっても、
動物が売り物なのに一切涙を誘おうとしないところだと思います！(笑)

たいていの動物ものって、大好きな飼い主をペットが待ち続けるとか、
保護した野生動物を涙ながらに自然に帰すとか、とにかく泣かせようとしますよね！
そしてわたしは悔しいことに絶っっっっっ対泣くんですよ！(T_T)
それがわかってるから、名作と呼ばれる動物ものは絶っっっっっ対見ないんですよ！(笑)

ところが「動物のお医者さん」は、獣医さんのお話だからか、
作者の佐々木倫子先生の考えというか味なのか、
「人は人、動物は動物」という線引きがされている感じで、
人間と動物との距離感が適度にあって、ベタベタしていません。

もっと言ってしまえば、人間同士の関係も濃密ではなく、
少女マンガなのにレギュラー陣同士での恋愛は一切ありません。
キャラが濃いので恋愛に発展するなんてあり得ないといえばそうですが、
おかげで人間同士の会話のやりとりも、淡々としていて面白いです。

おそらく、獣医さんの卵たちが主役の話とはいえ、
みんなムツゴロウさんみたいではすっごくつまらない話になるし、
人間同士もあまり密だと、よくある痴話げんかにしか聞こえなくなります。
絶妙な距離感だと思います。

動物は好きだけど、結局涙で落とそうとする話は嫌！という人にオススメです。
ちなみに、わたしのお気に入りは、第72・73話の、チョビが子供の頃のお話です。

ただし、現代獣医学ではタブーとされていることが作中で普通に書かれていることもあるので、
(犬やスナネズミに酒を飲ませる、ちくわを犬に食べさせる、など)
「『動物のお医者さん』でやってたから大丈夫！」と、鵜呑みにしてはいけません。
